2027 Best Lawyers Recognizes Gloria E. Block for Family Law
CHICAGO, IL — Block | Reid announced today that Gloria E. Block, Principal & Founder, has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America® 2027 edition, published on August 20, 2026. Block earned recognition in both Family Law and Family Law Mediation, marking her inclusion in the directory's 33rd edition.
The Best Lawyers in America selects honorees through a peer review process called Purely Peer Review®. Nominations come from attorneys outside the nominee's own firm. Lawyers already recognized in a practice area then complete confidential evaluations of their peers before a final list is confirmed. This year's edition recognizes 81,620 lawyers across 151 practice areas and 203 metropolitan regions nationwide, representing about 5% of practicing attorneys in the market. Chicago accounts for 2,731 of this year's honorees, placing it among the top five metro areas nationally.
Block has spent her career focused on family law, with particular attention to custody and visitation matters. She began practicing under the guidance of her father, Arnold Block, a longtime member of the Illinois Bar, before establishing her own reputation in cases involving children. Judges, attorneys, and mental health professionals frequently turn to her in the most difficult custody disputes, and courts often appoint her, with agreement from opposing counsel, to help resolve them.
Block received her law degree from Loyola University Chicago and her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University. She is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association, and the Decalogue Society of Lawyers. She is admitted to practice before the Illinois State Bar, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.
This recognition adds to a career that includes prior honors from Super Lawyers and Leading Lawyers, as well as her 2025 selection as one of Law Bulletin Media's Top Women in Law. Block continues to lead Block | Reid's family law practice, working alongside Russell M. Reid and the firm's attorneys to serve families across Cook and Lake County.
